What You’ll Do
The Role
We’re looking for a talented Freelance Web Designer to collaborate with our team on websites and digital experiences for technology startups.
We’re looking for someone with a strong visual eye who can go beyond layouts and UI. Someone who can turn complex ideas into compelling visual stories through typography, composition, illustration, imagery, diagrams, and motion.
You’ll work primarily in Figma, collaborate closely with our design team, and prepare clean, structured designs for development. We also expect you to be comfortable using AI tools as part of your creative workflow, from research and ideation to visual exploration and asset creation.
What You will do
- Design beautiful, modern websites for technology startups
- Translate complex products and ideas into clear visual stories
- Create custom illustrations, diagrams, imagery, and other visual assets
- Develop micro-animations and motion concepts that bring designs to life
- Work within existing brands as well as newly created visual languages
- Create responsive designs using strong layout systems and typography
- Build clean, organized Figma files using components, variables, and reusable systems
- Prepare thoughtful, developer-friendly handoffs
- Collaborate with our designers, project managers, developers, and clients in a fast paced environment
- Use AI tools for research, ideation, visual exploration, image creation, and asset optimization
- Manage multiple projects and deliver consistently within agreed timelines
What You bring
- 2+ years of professional web design experience
- A strong portfolio demonstrating excellent contemporary web design
- Strong illustration, image-making, and visual storytelling abilities
- Excellent command of Figma, including components, variables, and structured design systems
- Strong understanding of typography, grids, hierarchy, composition, and responsive design
- Experience designing for technology companies or startups
- Confidence working across different formats, including one-pagers, presentations, and white papers is an advantage
- Experience incorporating AI tools into your creative workflow
- Ability to work independently, communicate clearly, and manage multiple deadlines
- Motion design and animation skills are a strong advantage
- Webflow development skills or familiarity with Webflow are a strong advantage
About the Collaboration
This is a freelance position, working with Polar Hedgehog on an ongoing basis. We’re looking for someone we can build a long term working relationship with and involve across different client projects as needs arise.
You’ll work remotely and collaborate directly with our team through Figma, Slack, and regular project communication.
About the process
Candidates with a strong portfolio and relevant experience will be invited to an introductory meeting with our team lead.
Selected candidates will then receive a short, paid design assignment based on the type of work they would be doing with us.
